Toffee Insurance Partners with the 7th Hero MTB Shimla Race

Pedalling. Fast. Down a Mountain Trail.

Imagine. Cycling down a bumpy dirt track, through lush forest trails, rustic villages, jaw-dropping green valleys stretching ahead of you, friendly goats jostling for way. Sounds idyllic? Nope. It’s a race! You’re neck to neck with some of the fastest mountain bikers in the world (a tough crowd, you may call it), adrenaline is pumping, and caution is blown away by the sharp clean wind in your face.

Sounds exciting? Well, it really is. And it’s right in our backyard. We at Toffee are super pumped to collaborate as the official insurance partner for India’s very own Hero MTB Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. A race that is the biggest, oldest and touted to be the toughest mountain biking event in the country.

HASTPA (Himachal Adventure Sports Tourism Promotion Association) collaborated with Hero Cycles to put together an exciting 9-day race travelling over 650 kms and finishing in Dharamshala. They have won international accolades and continue to attract some of the best riders from around the world. They have also introduced the shorter 2-day Hero MTB Shimla race to encourage Indian participation. The annual race is organized in April and will be in its 7th season this year.

It’s a race with a difference. For one, the Himalayas are the biggest mountain range in the world, which makes for super-strenuous tracks as well as amazing scenery and culture. HASTPA wants to promote more adventure travelers into the interior of the state all over the ridges and valleys of the beautiful state.

The race promoters have also taken grassroot initiatives to promote education, cleanliness and healthy sanitation amongst the native communities.

But ask a mountain biker. It’s about a rush of beauty, daredevilry and adventure. It’s about seeing places few people get to access. It’s about catching your breath under the bemused welcoming glances of hardy mountain villagers. It is so far from the normal, the safe, and the routine.

While educating on the importance of insurance, Toffee realised the unique opportunity to serve as something bigger — a bridge between communities that look out for each other. An enabler.
