Meet Samar. He’s found his tribe.
It’s a most unusual tribe: a group of people from various backgrounds and various descriptions, all bound together by one string. A slackline. Slackliners — connected by a love of precariously balancing on a rope high above the ground.
“The slackline community is a bunch of crazy, cool weird and fun people. We all get together and share balance. Out there no one judges. Everyone is just happy to be outside and chilling,” said Samar.
To have a community who gets you, who encourages you, who learns from you, who teaches you, that’s a great, pure feeling.
“They’re unique because they celebrate diversity — not just as a fun sounding statement, but when you do actually visit one of these communities you will see for yourself that there’s old, young, thin, fat, rich, poor…and the awesome thing is no one judges and no one cares. All we do out there is see, encourage, learn, teach and play.”
When you’ve found the thing you love, that’s all you want to do. That’s when you’ve found flow. On the highline, sun burning down on you, rain pouring on your head, everything just melts away. Time stops. You get centred, you get connected to what matters, what’s real.
“Earlier this year I was in Sweden on a 260 meter highline over a lake. Just when I was about to go out, it started to rain. I almost took off my music player so that It wouldn’t get ruined, but on second thought I didn’t. That session was just epic. I was amazing to be out there in the rain, playing, getting wet and wild. Refreshed. Totally felt like a kid. I still don’t even know why, but something about that session was just amazing,” reflects Samar.
